Killing in Ancient Rome
I hate how the people of ancient Rome enjoyed watching men kill each other. I understand that is just what they did for entertainment back then, but now if someone were to watch what the gladiators did to each other, they would be sick. In movies we see people die and get mutilated, but we also know it is just a movie and it is all just special effects. In ancient Rome the peopled cheered when another man was slaughtered. Gladiators were slaves, and to get free they had to fight for their freedom. They had to kill each other for their freedom. The men who were slaves might not have wanted to kill other men, but back then it was kill or be killed. The Romans turned slaves into murderers. Some of the gladiators had to kill their own friends, but for what? They would just go back into the arena sooner or later and slaughter another man again, and again, until either they died or until they were set free. But even if they did get set free they would still have those memories of all the men they killed, their faces embedded in their mind. I think nobody should have to fight for their freedom. Even a criminal or prisoner should at least get a trial before they are sent out to fight against wild lions and tigers. Also, everyone thinks that the gladiators are the killers but the people cheering for them are also murderers because they are forcing the winning gladiator to kill the loser. And what that gladiator had a family, the wife and child would have to watch their husband or dad die right in front of their eyes. Imagine how that child must have felt knowing that they would never see their father again. I know that I would devastated if I never got to see one of my parents again. No one deserves to die the way the gladiators died. Gladiators could have just fought until one of the men could not fight anymore, or until one of them got knocked out because no one wants to die by getting stabbed or sliced open.
